This is Heartbreaking

Save Falls of Clyde – International posted the following two pieces on Facebook this afternoon. The news is not good, not good, at all.

(1)   The following was issued by Save Falls of Clyde -- International:

“Well DOT [the Hawaii Department of Transportation] has published the RFP [Request for Proposal] today and its not looking good if I am honest. The terms of any solution are quite onerous and I can only guess that the conditions will push this project up to around the $5m plus cost. The attached controls on removing corals and and other liabilities imposed would scare all interested parties.

“A 50% bond is included again despite the promise from the Deputy Director, and the associated conditions and open ended nature of this RFP, all to suit DOT, carry many penalties. This will surely scare any commercial interest away, just like before.

“Falls of Clyde RIP [Rest in Peace] 1878-2024”

(2)   The following was issued by the Hawaii Department of Transportation:

“Please be advised that solicitation P25000147 RO1068-24 REMOVAL OF FALLS OF CLYDE FROM HONOLULU HARBOR was released on 07/25/2024 12:00 AM in HIePRO. This is an automated notification. Do not reply to this email. Thank you.”

From all appearances, the Hawaii Department of Transportation is requesting bids for the removal of the Falls of Clyde from Honolulu Harbor. Past information has been to the effect that they want to scuttle the ship. True or false? We have no way of knowing.

An Interesting Observation

I was watching an episode of McMillan & Wife entitled "Greed" (Season 5, Episode 6) when what should appear but a US Coast Guard cutter....

It's heartbreaking indeed, that such a proud ship seems to be doomed.
