Today marks the 233rd anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard, which was established in 1790. It conducts maritime law enforcement and conducts search and rescue operations within the coastal United States (territorial waters).
As the Paralyzed Veterans of America wrote in their e-mail this morning, “Today, our Coast Guard consists of more than 41,000 active-duty men and women, 7,000 reservists, and 31,000 auxiliarists working to keep our waters safe and secure.”
Jack was honored by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, civilian supporters of the Coast Guard, with the rank of commodore (equivalent to a rear admiral-lower half in the Navy); thus, he is seen wearing one star on his uniform. He began his association with the Coast Guard when he studied to become a commissioned officer in the Merchant Marine. At that time, Merchant Marine officer training was conducted at the Coast Guard's Fort Trumbull in New London, Connecticut.
The Coast Guard’s boat examination program was featured in “And a Time to Die” (Season 3). McGarrett boarded Wo Fat’s boat under the pretense of doing a boat examination. In actual fact, he was searching for Ellen Forbes, the child Wo Fat had kidnapped.
Learned some new facts, thanks for sharing.
