I was watching an episode of McMillan & Wife entitled "Greed" (Season 5, Episode 6) when what should appear but a US Coast Guard cutter. Wiki wiki quick, I jotted down the hull number (82374), then googled it to see what the ship's name was -- Point Carrew. The Point Carrew entered service on May 18, 1970, and served the Coast Guard until August 22, 2000. It was then transferred to Argentina, where it became known as the Astillero Rio Santiago (ARS).
On Hawaii Five-0, the Coast Guard ship was the Cape Corwin, hull number 95326. She made her first appearance in the pilot, “Cocoon,” and came to the rescue in seven episodes in Seasons 6, 8, 9, and 10. While most of the Cape-class cutters have been retired, Cape Corwin remains in service today with the Micronesian Coast Guard. Now, her name is Constitution. So popular was Cape Corwin that Coast Guardsmen who served on her during the original run of Hawaii Five-0 called her Cape McGarrett.
Here's an interesting coincidence: Hawaii Five-0 had a character named "Carew." You will remember Jim "Kimo" Carew (William Smith) in Season 12. He backed Tony Alika (Ross Martin) into the sea in "A Lion in the Streets."
